Located in Coral Gables, Mis Amigos Languages is an innovative Spanish and French language immersion program designed to provide young children as early as 6 months of age to kids 15 years old with language lessons which incorporate rich culture, art, cooking and Spanish Mommy and Me classes throughout the year including Spanish summer camp to native and non-native children.

Our mission at Mis Amigos Languages, is to provide children with Spanish and French  with a rich language and cultural immersion experience during the early years by means of each child’s individual learning style in order to equip them with the necessary tools to excel in a global context.  To do so, Mis Amigos Languages’ instructional methods are inspired by the research behind Howard Gardner’s theory of “Multiple Intelligences”.  Through various methodologies our weekly language immersion programs in Spanish and French are offered to children ages 6 months through 15 years of age, affording children the ability to grow with our program.

Another unique feature of Mis Amigos Languages immersion program is 30 years expertise in both language immersion and developmental psychology in order to provide each child a nurturing language experience.  Our Spanish and French programs meet the standards of the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

Window of Opportunity

Many years of research dictates that early language acquisition peaks during the ages of birth and twelve years of age. This is not because they are 'sponges', but because they are in a 'critical period' or 'window of opportunity' for language acquisition (Eric Lennenberg, Ellen Bialystock, Patricia Khul).  It is during this time tht the greatest growth of executive function takes place in the brain of bilingual and multilingual children allowing for increased 'toggling' in the brain, which leads to enhanced problem-solving abilities as one of the many benefits acquired by bilingual and multilingual children. 'Functional plasticity' or flexibility in the brain decreases as children enter puberty. It is at this time that the brain laterizes or compartmentalizes with the information becoming rigid. Because of our background in child psychology, Mis Amigos Languages is able to understand how these research applies to language acquisition and incorporate it into our teaching methods.
